Queensland Government Walk on the Wildside Benefit Dinner for Wildlife Warriors Worldwide

The opening event for the New York portion of the G’Day USA program was a benefit dinner for 330 guests at the magical Allen Room overlooking Columbus Circle at Jazz at Lincoln Centre. Sponsored by the Queensland Government, the event was held in partnership with Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, an organization started by the late Steve Irwin and dedicated to raising awareness for wildlife and conservation issues.

A total of US$100,000 was raised during the evening for the Wildlife Warriors, which now includes one of the organisation’s official causes - saving the Tasmanian Devil from the facial tumour disease.

Julie Olsen, the Hon John Olsen AO, Terri and Bindi Irwin walked the
red carpet.

The exclusive gala honoured the great work of the original Wildlife Warrior, Steve Irwin, and his legacy. Terri Irwin, Bindi Irwin and Deputy Premier of Queensland the Hon Paul Lucas attended and spoke at the dinner, as well as US Ambassador for Wildlife Warriors, Khaliah Ali – author, fashion designer, talk show host, and daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali.

The evening also included a very special silent auction. Terri Irwin personally donated one of the last remaining signed “Steve Uniforms” to the event. This was the first, and to date only, official auction of a Steve uniform in the USA (value: priceless). Additionally, Curtis Australia, Australia’s only luxury pen maker created an extraordinary collector’s pen to draw attention to the work of the Wildlife Warriors. Specially created and hand crafted, the solid gold foundation pen beautifully illustrates several endangered species surrounded by more than 450 sparkling diamonds and sapphires.

Bindi Irwin sang 'Save me the Whale' at the
Wildlife Warriors Dinner.

Special guests included John Travolta and television personality and wildlife expert, Jack Hanna who attended with his wife and daughter. As a result of Jack Hanna’s participation in G’Day USA, he will be filming several upcoming episodes of his new television series, Into the Wild in Tasmania as well as other states.

Celebrity Australian chef Shannon Bennett crafted the menu, with fresh produce flown in from Australia paired with premium Australian wines, Banrock Station Wines.

The dinner was generously supported by the Queensland Government, Pratt Industries, MargiArt and Banrock Station Wines.
