Australia's Gastronomic Flair at G'Day USA
Aussie Gourmet Food Hits Citarella Stores
A selection of Australia’s finest food and wine tempted American (and Australian) taste buds during G’Day USA’s New York supermarket promotion at gourmet food chain, Citarella.
Citarella Customers enjoyed the Australian produce on display.
A feature at Citarella for the second consecutive year, the promotions offered a distinctively Aussie flavour, enticing shoppers to buy up local Australian specialities such as wagyu beef, lamb, olive oils, fruit paste, cheeses, seafood and wine.
Some of the Aussie companies which stocked the shelves this year included Greg Norman’s Signature Wagyu Beef, Australian Lamb, Brookfarm macadamia mueslis, nuts and oils, Valley Produce Company truffle-infused honey and fruit pyramids, Red Island and Yellingbo olive oils, King Island and Dairy Vale cheeses.
The month long January promotion aimed to increase the profile of Australian fine foods to American consumers and food buyers.
A simultaneous promotion took place on the West Coast at Bristol Farms stores in Los Angeles.
Aussie products lined the aisles at Citarella.
Wine Festival
The Wine Australia Festival, held on Thursday 24 January at Cipriani’s Wall Street, kicked off with a trade-only tasting, followed by evening festivities opened to the public. Both sections highlighted Australia’s Regional Wine Heroes, with special focus tasting tables on six of Australia’s premium wine regions: Barossa, Clare Valley, Coonawarra, Margaret River, McLaren Vale, and Yarra Valley. The consumer section featured six top Australian restaurants from the New York area, preparing signature dishes from their restaurants to complement the wines.
Discerning wine lovers sampled the Australian varieties at the Festival.
Australia's Top Chefs
Three of Australia’s most celebrated chefs, Shannon Bennett, Luke Mangan and Neil Perry displayed their gastronomic flair at this year’s G’Day USA events.
Shannon Bennett of Melbourne’s Vue de monde wowed guests with his exquisite culinary creations at this year’s Queensland Government Walk on the Wild Side Dinner, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Bennett created a 5 course masterpiece for 300 guests, with his elaborate Bouillabaisse ‘en cinq minutes’ – a signature dish. All courses incorporated fresh produce flown in from Australia, paired with premium wines from Banrock Station.
Sydneysiders Luke Mangan and Neil Perry, joined forces for the Australia Day Black Tie Gala, held at the historic Waldorf Astoria with 1200 guests. Mangan (Grass Brasserie at Hilton, Sydney, Salt, Tokyo, and South, San Francisco) crafted canapés with a focus on Australian seafood and lamb, and a robust entrée featuring Australian organic beef. Perry (Rockpool, Sydney & Melbourne, Blue Water Grill, Bondi, and Qantas first class food) took the reigns for an impressive Appetiser of Ocean Trout Ceviche and a crowd-pleasing dessert – Raspberry Mascarpone Cake.
